Brighton Film Quartet presents concerts of live music, film visuals & soundtrack, brought to schools in Brighton & Hove and Sussex

SOUNDSCAPE 4 Schools...

Inspirational, educational and fun... these exciting and moving live concerts feature piano, cello, violin and clarinet set to breathtaking visuals on a large screen, a vibrant soundtrack and beautiful vocals. The Quartet aim to give all school-children in Brighton & Hove the chance to see a concert of live music "up close and personal", to be inspired by the different instruments, the beautiful blend of music to film footage, to hear the work of a local female composer, and to send them away buzzing with the desire to see more live music in future. Our goal is to bring SOUNDSCAPE to 25 schools, or 13,600 schoolchildren in the area through 2016-2017.

about the quartet

With the National Curriculum in mind, the Quartet's music showcases three instrument groups: keyboard, woodwind and strings with their unique quartet (the only of its kind in the UK). 100% local, the girls live in Brighton and their pianist, Penny, composes all the music - a fabulous mix of cinematic & classical with elements of pop, bringing together major music genres in a brilliant and daring way! In collaboration with 5 Brighton-based filmmakers, the visuals are a sensory feast featuring both local and international scenery - from the cliffs of the Seven Sisters shot by drone to the magical ice-scapes of Greenland. The accomplished Brighton Film Quartet, resident at the Grand, have performed sell-out SOUNDSCAPE concerts every year at the Fringe (Spiegeltent), with a performance at the Royal Pavilion last year. Make no mistake, this music will have a young audience completely spellbound...

After an intro to the instruments, each concert lasts 40 minutes (see our trailer below for a preview) and ends with a Q&A and a Meet the Musicians session for the children. Pupils leave with info on how to start learning an instrument or join a choir, as well as live music events and workshops (all genres) in their area. Offered free to schools, our concerts are only possible with sponsorship from local businesses and invididuals like you! The £350 fee goes to pay our four musicians, their travel, PA equipment, plus contributions to the filmmakers. If you'd like to sponsor a specific school in Brighton & Hove, please just ask.

why sponsor?

With the option to have your business as sponsor on the concert programme for both children (and parents who are also invited), and on our website/social media, we also offer you tickets to attend (and if you've never heard the sound of 300 kids screaming with excitement at the end of a concert, you ain't lived!). Finally, research shows that music develops the brain, helps create healthy minds and happy young people... be a part of our passion to inspire children's interest in one of the most highly creative and satisfying art forms.

Our five aims are:

1) to offer schoolchildren an unforgettable experience of live music "up close and personal" in a unique multimedia setting featuring visuals, soundtrack and vocals - all produced by Brighton folk and a female composer

2) to inspire children to learn a musical instrument or sing

3) to encourage pupils to attend concerts and live music events locally

4) to show the sheer versatility of styles possible with an ensemble, from classical, cinematic through to trip hop!

5) to present future career paths for budding musicians in a positive light

Three of the four members of the Brighton Film Quartet are instrumental teachers with the Brighton & Hove Music Service in local schools. Please don't hesitate to call Penny on 0788 1915593 or email her on penny@verycomposed.com on any other matter.
