Calling all filmmakers!

TIMESCAPE – Brighton Film Quartet

At Brighton Film Quartet we are looking for filmmakers who'd like to collaborate with us in our unique concerts. We would love to feature a 2- to 10-minute clip of your footage in our upcoming concerts at venues in the Sussex/London area. Dates so far have included the Duke of Yorks arthouse cinema, Brighton Fringe and recently the De La Warr Pavilion as part of the International Composers Festival. After three years of performing our own minimalist cinematic music as a piano quartet, we have developed TIMESCAPE, a multi-layered concert, setting our live music (piano, clarinet, cello and violin) to stunning visuals, with composed soundtrack and vocals. Our music is composed by the pianist, Penny, and we are an all-female quartet. To hear some tracks listen below. The trailer will give a good taster of our show (showing SOUNDSCAPE from 2018 but will give the general feel for what we are looking for!). The second trailer below it, is a full-length concert just to show more clips of footage we've used.

We have generally worked with pre-made footage, and as a guideline for the visuals: think artistic, abstract, beautiful colours, edgy urbanscape, evocative, dramatic, dreamy, timelapse (not necessarily all at once!). For our theme next year TIMESCAPE we are looking for nature, technology, journeys, colour, time, urbanscapes etc. It's quite a loose theme (the story of creation from beginning to modern-day man). Narrative-led imagery doesn't really work as a rule. But feel free to run any ideas past us, too! We try not to edit the footage at all but would always ask your permission to make any small changes or to slightly adjust for our music if needed. Also, in some cases we may compose music especially for your footage.

Most visuals don't need to "sync" with the music, as we'll be playing in freetime and are just looking for a visual that roughly matches the mood of the music. The Soundcloud tracks right below give you an idea of the kind of music, though we have many more too. As an upcoming quartet we don't yet have the funds to pay our filmmakers (though we are positive this will change in the future, and hope to be able to make some contribution very soon!), however we can offer use of any of our music for free in your projects as an exchange (see compositions for more of an idea) and will get you some comp tickets to see one of our shows. You'll also be credited fully on the programmes, on screen after each show, linked on our home page and promoted in our social media before shows.

Please contact Penny on the info below. Thank you so much for your time, and we really look forward to collaborating with you! Love, Penny, Emma, Sophie & Abi x
